Trans* Services/ Gender Therapy
You may have arrived here with the question ‘am I trans?’ or ‘am I trans enough?’ You may be wondering where your place in the LGBTQ community is. You may have arrived here ready for the next step in your transition, whether that’s making the choice to come out to friends and family, your job, your case manager, or your doctor. You may have arrived because you need support with medical documentation for surgery. Whatever the reason, whatever step in your journey you are on, you are welcome here.
Gender therapy
In gender therapy, we might explore things like...
Surgery support letters
I provide pay-what-you-can surgery support letters as a service to the trans* community. A disclaimer-requiring letters from a mental health practitioner is not in line with an informed consent (ICATH) model, and is a form of gatekeeping by the largely cisgender medical industrial complex. If you need documentation, we can schedule a one hour online consultation. We will go over the social, emotional, practical, and psychological implications of surgery and you will receive your letter at the end of the session. I do not require that you be an established client, or that you continue care with me after you have your letter. Of course I am always happy to negotiate ongoing services if you would like to see me for therapy.
Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) support letters
Requiring a letter for HRT is also not considered in line with an informed consent model, and as a rule I do not provide them. I do not believe that requiring unnecessary documentation for access to life-saving medical care is an ethical practice, and there are many accessible medical providers who do not engage in this type of gatekeeping. I am happy to provide resources on medical providers who use the ICATH model, and am also happy to support you in advocating for your medical needs in a consultation session. The exceptions to this are if you are under the age of 18, and if you are absolutely set on seeing a medical provider who insists on additional documentation.

- Gender dysphoria/euphoria
